Tips on Wearing Cufflinks (Without Looking Like a Dork)
Cufflinks. Cuff links. Cuff-links.
You can spell them any which way you want, but they all refer to the same fashion accessory that have been around since the early 16th century. Cufflinks are traditionally used to fasten the edges - the cuffs - of a dress shirt or a blouse, although today, there may be instances wherein they are used in surprising manners.
Why am I writing about about cufflinks?
Believe it or not, there are people who may have the need to look presentable on a daily basis. Not everyone works from home in their jammies after all. More so, even remote workers may have the need to get out of their dens once in a while. Going out to attend a party or a function can do wonders for the work-at-home person, and correct me if I am wrong, dressing up for those events can be a chore at times.
Let me deviate from my usual topics and write something about fashion then. And in case you're wondering, yes, I have been facing the need to be grown up, dress up, and pay attention to my outfit lately.
So back to cufflinks. Of all the fashion accessories that you can find, these little gems (literally and figuratively) can add a world of difference to how you look. You may think that they are only for the "stiff" look, but here are some tips to help you navigate the world of cufflinks. It's not that bad.
Tips on Wearing Cufflinks
So you think cufflinks can be cool. But how do you make sure you do not look awkward when you wear them?
It's really simple if you have even the slightest fashion sense, and remember, style is all about YOU anyway. What makes you feel good and comfortable, you should go for. However, here are some basic tips which should get you on the right track when it comes to using cufflinks as a fashion accessory.
What's your personality?
Don't laugh, but this is important. Think about it as if you were thinking of a tie. You don't just go to a store and pick out the first tie that you come across, right? The chances are that you will look around and pick a tie that "calls out your name". Additionally, you probably will try the tie out just to see if it's something you would wear. The same thing applies to cufflinks. Sure, you can wear any pair, but to make sure it's a success, it is best to match the cufflinks with your personality as well.
Pay attention to colors!
This is a basic tenet of fashion, so no need to harp on about it. Still, it is important to be reminded that as tiny as cufflinks are, they still need to match - or at least not clash - with the rest of your outfit. If you are not sure about the colors, then your best bet is to go with the classic look and feel. You won't go wrong with silver cufflinks in this case.
Choose your material.
This goes hand in hand with the first tip, although personal preference may play a bigger role in this matter. Additionally, the cost will be a consideration as well. While the classics are usually silver, steel, or gold, there are so many kinds of materials used for cufflinks today. If, for example, you like gems and shiny stones, you will certainly find something to suit your fancy.
Consider the cost.
There are so many options when it comes to cufflinks that you will find something no matter what your budget is. Of course, if you have the money, and you really want to make a good impression, you should not stop yourself from going for designer cufflinks. On the other hand, if you know for a fact that you cannot afford to spend lavishly on cufflinks, then for goodness's sake, don't be extravagant! Take a look at the costs and compare prices online. You will always find a good deal and still look great!
